Week 333: “September Song” by Chet Baker

chet baker

I love September.

September reminds me that the world is colourful and vibrant. September is warm when I need warmth, refreshing when I need a change of perspective. September is a breeze that makes my ankles feel lighter when I walk. September reminds me of the adventures of a summer that’s just ended, and the excitement of a holiday season on the horizon.

But what I love most about September is generosity. September gives so that others might be happy.

So whenever I see trees exploding into colour, sacrificing their leaves so that people can spice up their Instagram feeds, I’m reminded that September gives me everything I need and asks nothing in return.

What makes this a beautiful song:

1. Chet Baker’s whispering trumpet reminds me of September humming happily in the morning.

2. Connie Kay’s understated percussion reminds me of September’s quiet heartbeat at night.

3. Kenny Burrell’s light strumming of the guitar reminds me of the light smile that September can never fully hide, even when it’s raining.
