We listened to a Foxwarren song just this past August. Their second album was pretty much the soundtrack to my late summer, and in September I had the chance to see them in concert.
For fear of over-Foxwarrening myself, I took a break for the rest of the fall. And then last week that sneaky algorithm pulled this wonderful little remix out of the air and pushed me right back down the rabbit fox hole.
What makes this a beautiful song:
1. Although the original version isn’t among my favourites on the album, I always thought the song’s best moment was the heavenly high harmonies on the line, “I don’t know what I’d do…without you Yvooooooone…”. I love that Helado Negro brought that moment front and centre in the remix.
2. Some elements get treated to near-infinite reverb, such that the decaying reverb creates a continuous background noise.
3. The bass and kick drum are present but muffled, as if you’re hearing them from beneath the surface of a pool.
Recommended listening activity:
Going through photos from last summer and wondering whether it feels like yesterday or years ago.
